Simple Past Tense |
Hello guys..
Okey.. Today, we will discussed about Simple Past Tense.
Before we discussed about Simple Past Tense, Read the sentence and pay attention to the words in bold.
1. I made a handicraft this morning.
2. They were very happy.
3. I shared my marbles with my friends.
4. I often won and had a lot of marbles.
5. This morning, she went to school with her friend, Nanda.
The words in bold are verbs and auxiliaries (to be) in past form. They show that those activities happened in old days.
There are two forms of Simple Present Tense.
1. with to be: was (singular) or were (plural) ( we add 'not' after 'was' or 'were' in negative
sentences and we put 'was' or 'were' at the beginning of interrogative sentences ).
2. with verbs: regular verbs ( ended with -d/-ed, such as used, played, and shared) or irregular
verbs (such as won, flew, and made). We need an auxiliary 'did' when we say in negative and
interrogative sentences. So, we use verbs in base forms.
Positive, Negative, and Interrogative sentences of Past Tense |
Did Not = Didn't
Positive : Subject + Verb 2 + Object + Adverb
Negative : Subject + Did + not + Verb 1 + Adverb
Interrogative : Did + Subject + Verb 1 + Object + ?
We used the following adverbs of time show activities that happened in the past: just now,
a few moments ago, this morning, ago, yesterday, and last ... (last Sunday, last Week, last year,
etc.).
Thank You.
